Teach Children How to Code at Young Age
LIGHTNING RELEASES — VANCOUVER, Canada (August 26, 2014) – Code is a 21st century stimuli all children should interact with. Children are naturally inquisitive, and exposing them to code early on allows for their mind to experiment and create with a new tool.
As mentioned in the New York Times1,The Walt Disney Company thinks so too. Codarica was selected as one of 11 finalists for Disney’s Accelerator program, powered by Techstars.
It’s fairly common for most digital natives to have learned their ABCs on a tablet or similar device. From early on they are highly in-tune with technology. As the grasp of technology envelopes children younger and younger, it stands to reason that the methodology to teach development of these platforms should also be taught at a young age. Teaching coding is in line with the core aims of the Mathematics and Science Curriculum, which is implemented across 44 states in the U.S.2
The Codarica program gets children learning about code in the early phase of their cognitive development.
Through the Disney Accelerator program, Atimi’s Executive Vice-President & Partner, Scott Michaels, was hand selected as the lead mentor for the Codarica team from over 150 mentors. When asked why they selected Mr. Michaels, Rosalyn Knapp, Technological Strategist & Founder said, “What is so great about working with Scott is how resourceful, helpful, intuitive, and approachable he is. It was great to be given a springboard into the world of how to create a world-class app.”
When asked why Mr. Michaels wanted to work with Codarica he said, “Having spent many years in an established company, it’s rewarding to be able to give back. Helping a young entrepreneurial team with a product I believe in and I’m really excited to see come to life makes it all the more worthwhile.”
Most importantly, Code.org says there will be 1.4 million jobs in the computing field in 2020, but just 400,000 college computer science majors to fill them3. In order to keep up with this demanding new economy, software such as Codarica ensures that children learn the basics as early as possible and in a fun and entertaining way.
