With luxurious amenities, pampering services and top-tier accommodations, today’s best business class offerings are more like first class cabins than ever. Key to this luxurious transformation is the inclusion of plush, spacious seating and plenty of bells and whistles to make long journeys productive and restful. Many of the world’s top airlines have spent millions of dollars installing the newest, most comfortable seats available, and here are our top picks for the best business class seats in the industry.

Today’s business class seats are all about “intelligent” seat design, extra shoulder room and recline options that include a full-flat bed. At No. 10 on our list, China Southern Airlines includes all of those features, touting its new business class seat as a “couch in the air.” And, at a fully flat position, the seats stretch to a roomy and near sofa-like 75-to-85-inch long bed.

Trendy Virgin Atlantic, at No. 9, offers precious privacy with a suite-like setting, super-long beds and direct access to aisles.

Eighth place Korean Air similarly fills its business class cabin with the roomy Prestige Sleeper seats that recline 180 degrees and to various points in between at the touch of a button. Beloved Qantas hits the list at No. 7, offering discerning travelers its award-winning Skybed seats with multiple recline positions, ample storage and a flat 77-inch bed with turn-down service.

This year, No. 6 Air France is rolling out its $500 million investment in new cabins with beds sporting leather upholstery, 16-inch high definition touchscreens and a full-flat bed with padded headboard, super-soft duvet and extra-large down pillow. Whether travelers are aboard No. 5 Singapore Airlines’ new business class fares, long-haul flights or regional flights, they can expect the signature Singapore luxury. Its sophisticated new seating maximizes privacy and touch-button functionality and provides two new reclining positions.

At No. 4, Emirates is standard bearer in the upper tier of business class accommodations. Its new A380 and most B777 aircraft feature top-of-the-line seats that convert to full-flat beds extending 79 inches. The seats recline using a touchscreen and present plentiful storage, in-seat power supply and a built-in minibar. A titan in the industry, Cathay Pacific rests at No. 3 with new A330 business class seats that include retractable arm rests, swivel tables, power supply, a shoe locker and a spacious flat bed. In second place, luxurious Qatar Airways’ new B787 business class cabins offer unmatched comfort, productivity and privacy. Lie flat on Italian Frette linens or recline to work or play on a personal dual-screen hand-held device.

At the top of several lists this year is Japan Air Lines, or JAL. Its international business class sky suites are a world apart, showcasing a full-flat bed with specially designed “airweave” pillows and mattresses. Direct aisle access, bountiful storage and plenty of shoulder and leg room guarantee that passengers enjoy a peaceful flight in JAL’s business class.
