Advanced Wall Technologies’ Encapsulated Berm and Construction Method is Awarded Fourth Patent
LIGHTNING RELEASES: RICHMOND, Va. (7/23/2014) – Advanced Wall Technologies, LLC is pleased to announce that on July 22, 2014, the fourth of ten anticipated patents was issued (Patent No. 8,784,008) from the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) for the core technology behind its state-of-the-art encapsulated berm and construction method.
The AWT system is a Proven, Rapid, Reliable and Sustainable option compared to a traditional MSE berm design. Unlike traditional MSE berms, the AWT MSE berm has an internal geomembrane envelope that completely encapsulates the fill material. Advantageously, this encapsulation enables the use of beneficial reuse material as fill material to increase capacity at a cost generally less expensive than new facility construction.
“This patent is an important component of the AWT method of MSE Berm construction providing our clients a method of using beneficial use materials in both the reinforced and non-reinforced zones of the berm while maintaining the impermeability of the encapsulation. The AWT system is a GREEN option. 99.7% of the AWT MSE Berm System is constructed with recycled fill materials. AWT supports recycling and RESPONSIBLE Beneficial Re-Use. We believe this is the second of multiple patents to be issued this summer.” said John P. Swenson, AWT’s Managing Partner.
The AWT System gives clients a significant economic benefit alternative by creating airspace (expansion) with very little capital cost. This is compared to traditional methods of berm construction.
