Work Rest & Play to Open Jan. 31, Benefiting the Local Business Community and I Am Young Social Enterprise
New co-working facility aims to foster area business development and provide funding for youth projects
LONDON, UK – Work Rest & Play, a new co-working facility in Ilford, London, will provide a workplace for businesses in the region, bringing benefits to the local community through business development. Additionally, a large proportion of the profits brought in from Work Rest & Play will fund I Am Young’s youth projects in local neighborhoods.
Work Rest & Play is a co-working facility that will serve as an incubator for local businesses, providing members valuable workspace without the overhead of maintaining their own offices. The combination of work, rest, and play creates an environment conducive to entrepreneurship and success that will benefit the local community through area business growth. To date, before the business has officially launched, over 85 percent of desks available have already been rented to businesses keen to relocate to the brand new facilities.
Work Rest & Play’s unique environment enhances productivity as well as creates opportunities for members to network with other business owners. The new facility is home to hundreds of affordable workstations, available for use by local businesses, but what sets this facility apart, aside from its support for local youth projects, is dedicated spaces for “rest and play”. Facility members can unwind in the facility’s purpose built areas, including punch bag rooms, gaming zones, or indeed take advantage of well stocked DVD and book libraries.
As the business arm of I Am Young Ltd, a large proportion of the profits from Work Rest & Play will go towards funding the initiative’s youth projects. I Am Young is a social enterprise which works with global businesses, celebrities, and international royalty to organize alternative and exciting youth projects for individuals aged 14 through 25. The initiative receives no government backing, and aims to become self-sufficient through the operation of Work Rest & Play as well as its own merchandise sales.
The goals of Work Rest & Play and I Am Young are to benefit the local community as a whole, both in terms of the area’s youth and local businesses. Founder Kabir Ahmed feels passionately about these two initiatives, and has deep rooted family links to the areas in question. “You only have to walk to the high street to see boarded up shops and kids hanging on street corners. The two go hand in hand, and by launching I Am Young and Work Rest and Play we want to give back to the community and provide a framework for both youth and business growth” says Ahmed, who himself has spent over two decades both as a youth worker and in commercial enterprise. Ahmed continued, “This is a BETA test site for us. If we are successful we will move to our second site in E1, East London as we already have another site ready to convert”. Indeed, in response to the high demand for work stations, plans are already underway to add additional offices and up to 480 more hot desks to the existing premises, which boast an impressive 20,000 square foot of additional space, yet to be utilized.
The grand opening of Work Rest Play will take place Friday, 31st January 2014, from 1:00 P.M. until 6:30 P.M. at 193-207 High Road Ilford, Ilford, Essex IG1 1LX. The public is welcome to attend. Food and drinks will be provided, as well as live music. Confirmed attendees include local Member of Parliament Rt Hon Steve Gapes, councilors, multiple youth-based organizations, and over 80 businesses including the accountancy firms, lawyers, architects, fashion and graphics designers, web developers, marketing companies and charities, all of whom will be moving into their new offices soon after launch. Work Rest & Play expects to have 200 to 300 youngsters in attendance to interview for posts as trainee youth workers.
