EZShield Provides Action Steps for Customers to Combat Target Data Breach

LIGHTNING RELEASES (12/20/2013) – Earlier this week, Target reported that the magnetic strip information was accessed on debit and credit cards between November 27 and December 15, 2013.  The report indicated that the number of breached accounts totaled 40 million, making this the second largest retail breach in US history. The largest remains TJ Cos., parent company of Marshalls and TJ Maxx, which reported 45.7 million accounts breached in 2005.

EZShield communicated to its partners’ customers through a “breach alert” to assist them in being diligent and taking immediate steps to protect themselves from the risks of this breach.

In its breach alert, EZShield suggested that consumers take the following steps:

  • Continuously check your bank statements for any suspicious activity
  • If you detect a problem: RedCard holders should contact Target (1-800-440-0680); others should contact their financial institution
  • Impacted debit card users should change their PIN
  • Monitor your credit account regularly and set purchase amount limits

“It is important for EZShield to help our customers and partners reduce the risk of potential fraud,” said Dale Dabbs, CEO of EZShield.  “We are committed to providing customers with proactive measures they can take to protect their personal accounts.”

EZShield also recommends filing reports with the proper authorities in the event you experience a fraud-related incident.
