Everyone’s had at a single moment in their life when all they wanted to do was pack up and go somewhere, anywhere. To do anything other that what they were doing at that every moment. However, most people are not in a position to be able to do so, or are simply too fearful.
“My Mexican Moments”, by Sheila Madsen is the true tale of a 60ish couple who did pack up on a whim and leave their old lives behind. It is, without a doubt, one of the most entertaining, informative and enlightening books for expat wannabes, relocating retirees, and aging adventures to be found anywhere.
My Mexican Moments is now available in a Kindle edition. It’s 131 pages are an entertaining, pseudo adventurer’s handbook, travel guide, journal, memoir, autobiography and how to book for expats all rolled into one. The book documents the adventures of a newly retired couple, the Madsens, who realize they’re able to go anywhere in the world they want. Once they decide that the Mexican seaside town of Mazatlan will be where they’ll relocate to, the adventure begins.
The Story Outline…
My Mexican Moments chronicles the host of challenges the Madsens had to overcome making the move from Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The adventure continued once they arrived in Mazatlan, having no place to live while they dealt with having a condo built from scratch. All the while, the couple had to contend with various travel escapades and the inevitable culture shocks one expects when moving to another country.
Sheila Madsen shares her insights based on her own, unbiased perspective. For example, she describes the superior Mexican health care system. Being originally from Canada, a country proud of it’s cradle to grave health care system, her insights are particularly interesting. Mrs. Madsen also sheds light on many subject, such as making it clear that Mexicans aren’t all lazy as a particularly horrid stereotype suggests. Sheila also describes her observations of the various celebrations Mexico is famous for, and the sights, sounds, smells and tastes she experiences.
Often lighthearted and funny, other times quite serious, My Mexican Moments is a must read for anyone planning to move to Mexico once they retire, or anywhere is Central or South America for that matter. Likewise, it’s one of the most unbiased travel guides anyone planning a trip to Mazatlan, or Mexico in general, could hope for.
