Rosa Parks Museum Is A Compelling Reason To Come to Alabama, Hotelier Says
PRATTVILLE, Ala. — There are plenty of reasons to come to the Montgomery area, and the Rosa Parks Museum — which celebrates the civil rights activist’s life and legacy — is among the most compelling.
The innovative museum is built on the site of the Empire Theatre where Parks made her stand in 1955 against sitting at the back of the bus because she was black. It is a big part of the revitalization of Montgomery’s downtown area.
With a 103-seat multimedia auditorium and more than 7,000 square feet of space for permanent and special exhibits, it includes many interesting artifacts of a time gone by. They include a restored 1955 station wagon and a replica of a bus like Parks would have tried to ride the day she became an activist.

“Perhaps most interesting is the Children’s Wing of the museum. It takes you back on the so-called Cleveland Avenue Time Machine so you can find out how things don’t just happen without people like Rosa Parks making them happen. It’s very educational and a lot of fun for kids too. I think it makes its point very well,” the hotel spokesperson said.
When visitors get back to Prattville, they can spend some time enjoying the historic sites and exploring the town’s many artesian wells. The hotel regularly hosts visitors to the area who are interested in history because Prattville has a number of sites on the National Register of Historic Places.
