Devils Lake State Park In North Dakota Is Not To Be Confused
Devils Lake, N.D. — When people search the Internet looking for things to do in the Devils Lake, North Dakota area, they often get confused by a similarly named state park that’s hundreds of miles away.
“We’re not in Wisconsin,” said a spokesman for the Trails West Motel. “That’s the first thing you need to know about us.”
Web surfers sometimes get confused because there’s a popular tourist attraction called Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin. But near Devils Lake, North Dakota, there’s a similarly named collection of two state parks. In its case, the “s” on the end is plural, not possessive.
“The one in Wisconsin is named after the devil, I guess — or is supposed to belong to him,” the spokesman said jokingly. “Ours is named for two or more devils, I suppose.”
Devils Lake State Park is the name for two parks in Ramsey County, North Dakota that are both located on Devils Lake. Grahams Island and Black Tiger Bay total more than 1,100 acres of public land, but most visitors came for daytime water recreation or camping. There are more than 100 campsites.
“Our guests are the ones who don’t necessary want to rough it. They enjoy being treated right, and that’s what we offer — a premium experience for a low enough price that we can draw away some of those who were considering camping,” the spokesman said.
The Trails West Motel is on Hwy 2 and is also very near the Spirit Lake Casino. The hotel (trailswestmotelnd.com) has 75 rooms, each with a refrigerator and microwave. In addition to a popular free continental breakfast, the property offers a guest laundry facility and provides coffee all day and night. Winter vehicle plug-ins are also available when necessary.
